Ancelotti satisfied with Real Madrid after ‘balanced game’ against Man City

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is ‘satisfied’ with his team’s performance despite a draw against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid was held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by Manchester City at the Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday night.

Bernardo Silva scored an early goal for City with a free-kick but a Ruben Dias own goal and Rodrygo’s strike helped Real Madrid to win the first half. Man City returned to the game thanks to two screamers from Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol, but Fede Valverde leveled the game with a stunning volley.

Both teams will face each other in the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie at the Etihad Stadium next Wednesday.

After the match, Ancelotti told Movistar: “This was a well-balanced game, both teams really competed to the limit; it was a hard-fought draw. For as long as we pressed them, we were in very good shape. We tried hard to take advantage of our capacity to play quick-transition football.

They scored early and, in fairness, nobody could really have expected them to shoot from there. But we reacted really well, played excellently for 60 minutes but City scored two unstoppable goals. I really don’t think that conceding so early affected us or our mentality at all.”

Real Madrid is yet to win at the Etihad and lost with four goals in Manchester last season, but Ancelotti believes they can reach the semi-finals if they repeat tonight’s performance.

“We obviously wanted to take even a slender advantage into the second leg, but I think we need to be satisfied with a lot of tonight. We competed very well, and if we do that again next week, then we can go through,” he continued.
