Foden hat-trick guides Man City to win over Aston Villa as Arsenal go top

Manchester City thrashed Aston Villa thanks to a hat-trick from Phil Foden, while Arsenal returned to the top with a comfortable win over Luton Town.

Manchester City stayed in the Premier League title race with a 4-1 win over Aston Villa at Etihad on Wednesday night. Guardiola decided to bench both Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland in this game before their busy schedule in April.

Rodri opened the scoring in the 11th minute from Jeremy Doku’s cross. Just nine minutes later, Jhon Duran scored for Villa after a one-two with Morgan Rogers.

Phil Foden put City ahead again with a stunning free-kick just before half-time. Foden scored his second goal of the night in the 62nd minute after Rodri dribbled through Villa’s defence. The 23-year-old completed his hat trick with a long-range shot in the 70th minute.

In another Premier League match on Wednesday, Arsenal returned to the top with a comfortable 2-0 win against Luton Town. Mikel Arteta opted to make five changes to rest some of his key players.

Martin Odegaard broke the deadlock for Arsenal in the 24th minute. The captain raced onto a pass from Kai Havertz to thump home. Arsenal doubled its lead thanks to Daiki Hashioka’s own goal one minute before half-time.

Man City is one point behind leaders Arsenal, and also behind second-placed Liverpool on goal difference. Liverpool host Sheffield United at Anfield on Thursday evening.

Manchester City travel to Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime while Arsenal travel to Brighton on Saturday night.
