Cole Palmer’s late double gives Chelsea stunning win over Man United as Liverpool regain top spot

Chelsea secured an extraordinary win against Manchester United thanks to Cole Palmer’s late heroics as Liverpool returned to the top with a win over Sheffield United.

Cole Palmer scored twice in added time as Chelsea came from 3-2 down to beat Manchester United 4-3 at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night. The Red Devils’ hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League are dented, as they are 11 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa and eight points behind Tottenham.

Chelsea opened the scoring in the 4th minute after Conor Gallagher scored from Malo Gusto’s deflected shot. The Blues doubled their lead after Cole Palmer scored from a penalty spot in the 19th minute.

Manchester United pulled one goal back after Garnacho scored in the 34th minute following a Moises Caicedo error. Ten Hag’s side leveled the game before halftime when Bruno Fernandes scored with a header.

Man United took the lead in the 67th minute after Garnacho scored his second goal. Chelsea won a penalty after Diogo Dalot fouled Noni Madueke. Palmer scored from the spot 10 minutes into stoppage time to level the game. Just one minute later, the former Manchester City man completed his hat-trick after his shot deflected off Scott McTominay and went into the net.

In another Premier League match on Thursday night, Liverpool returned to the top of the table thanks to a 3-1 win over bottom club Sheffield United at Anfield. Liverpool is at the top with 70 from 30 games, two ahead of Arsenal and three more than Manchester City.

Darwin Nunez scored for Liverpool in the 17th minute after he blocked keeper Ivo Grbic’s attempted clearance into the net. Sheffield equalized in the 58th minute after Gustavo Hamer’s back-post header deflected in off Connor Bradley.

Alexis Mac Allister scored the second goal for Liverpool in the 76th minute with a powerful shot from the edge of the box. Cody Gakpo scored the third goal in the 90th minute with his head.
