Jose Mourinho appointed Turkish club Fenerbahce head coach

Former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has been appointed the new coach of Turkish Super Lig team Fenerbahce.

Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce announced on Sunday that Jose Mourinho will be their new head coach next season. The Portuguese coach reportedly has agreed to sign a two-year deal with Fenerbahce.

Fenerbahce head coach Ismail Kartal left his post on Friday after they finished second in the league behind Galatasaray. They only lost once and finished the season with 99 points. The Turkish club has not won the league title since 2013-14.

Fenerbahce posted a video message from Mourinho on X, in which he told Fenerbahce fans he would “see you tomorrow in Kadikoy, and let’s start our journey together.”

An official club statement also read: “Saracoglu is waiting for its new coach José Mourinho and its great fans at 7pm.”

The 61-year-old Mourinho left Italian side Roma in January after two and a half years. Former Chelsea and Manchester United boss won the Europa Conference League in 2022 with Roma and helped them reach the Europa League final in 2023.

The Portuguese legend has also worked at Porto, Inter Milan, and Tottenham. Fenerbahce will be the first time that Mourinho will work outside of the top five European leagues since 2004.
