According to reports in England, Xabi Alonso will not be included in Liverpool’s final shortlist of replacements for Jurgen Klopp. The Premier League side believes the Spaniard is set to stay in Germany.
Alonso reportedly was the number target for Liverpool to replace Klopp this summer, but now it appears he will not become their next manager. Alonso has signed a contract with Leverkusen until 2026, but it has a fixed exit clause of €15m, which can be activated in 2025.
Former Liverpool, Bayern, and Real Madrid midfielder remains a target for Bayern Munich, but Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeness admitted on Thursday that hiring Alonso this summer is ‘probably impossible’.
Reports in England suggest Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting CP coach Ruben Amorim are among the candidates to replace Klopp at Liverpool.
