Brazil beat England in coach Dorival Junior’s first match in charge, and Euro 2024 hosts Germany earned a friendly victory against France.
Gareth Southgate’s England suffered their first defeat since the World Cup against Brazil at Wembley on Saturday night.
Teenage star Endrick came off the bench and scored the match’s only goal in the 80th minute. After three consecutive defeats, Brazil returned to winning ways in Dorival Junior’s first match in charge.
Brazil came close to scoring when Lucas Paqueta hit the post in the 35th minute. Kyle Walker cleared Vinicius Jr shot off the line before leaving the pitch with an injury.
The 17-year-old Endrick, who is set to join Real Madrid in July, scored his first senior international goal on the rebound after Pickford had blocked Vinicius Jr’s shot.
England will play with Belgium at Wembley on Tuesday, while Brazil face Spain in Madrid on the same day.
Germany also secured an impressive 2-0 victory over France in Lyon on Saturday evening. Florian Wirtz scored a stunning goal after only seven seconds and Kai Havertz doubled Germany’s lead in the second half. It is the first win in their last four games for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
Toni Kroos set up Wirtz who struck a curling shot from outside the area into the top corner. It was Germany’s fastest international goal after only seven seconds. Kylian Mbappe could scored for France in the 25th minute when he burst into the box and behind the German backline, but Ter Stegen denied him. After excellent work between Wirtz and Jamal Musiala, Havertz doubled Germany’s advantage early in the second half.
Germany next face the Netherlands on Tuesday, while France plays Chile.
